“Meticulous…superb texts.
Mr. Anderson’s background as a karate champion is clear as the technique sequences exude a sense of realism that only comes from a fighter’s perspective. Thank you Grand Master Dan Anderson for being so meticulous in creating superb texts.  Highly recommended!”

Martial Arts Library for All Practitioners

This entire library of over 100 books & DVDs was created to assist students and masters with replication, understanding, and repetition. Grand Master Dan Anderson knows that anyone can master martial arts as long as it’s explained in a way that the student can understand.

“I truly think the only thing special about me is the way that I think about martial arts. If I can pass that step-by-step thought process on to other practitioners through these books and DVDs, I feel like I’ve done my job.” – Grand Master “Super” Dan Anderson

Eliminate the phrase “I don’t get it.”
If you are willing to learn, you have the potential to become a master. But you don’t have to keep banging your head against ideas and methods that don’t sink in. Every item in the “Super Dan” Martial Arts Library is full of practical methods designed to help you to teach and to learn the physical and mental discipline of martial arts.

Replicable and repeatable, not showy.
Every resource in this library is designed for you to be able to replicate and repeat what you learn. Never showy, just showing you how you can do what you see. And you can repeat it the next time you step on the mat in your dojo or in competition.

It’s time to study a method that isn’t interested in holding back secrets.
You could wander in darkness, hoping that eventually, a concept will make sense…that with enough drilling, drilling, drilling the concept will “reveal itself”…Or you can eliminate the mystery by studying concepts explained in a manageable, step-by-step, and “unmagical” way. Start applying the how and why of form, movement, and theory. With this knowledge, you can illuminate your own path.

I have just finished one of my finest works, a 21st century application of the classic text by Miyamoto Mushashi, Japan’s greatest swordsman. Miyamoto Musashi’s Book of Five Rings is not going to be yet another translation of Musashi’s flagship book.  I’ve read The Book of Five Rings a number of times.  I have read it each time with the purpose of answering this question. “How does this book apply to me and my fighting arts in present time?”

Bear in mind that being born in the 20th century and living in the 21st century brings about a very different set of cultural circumstances. How can something written back in 1645, The Book of Five Rings, figure into my own martial expression?  Simple.  I have always maintained this pervading concept:

All fighting is the same; just the rules of engagement and tools differ.

This book outlines how Musashi’s classic text fits into modern day martial culture.

Here is an early review of the book:
“Just as “American Freestyle Karate: A Guide to Sparring” filled a huge hole in martial arts literature, this book provides a perspective on Musashi’s classic unlike any before it. In his typical no-nonsense, no-fluff style, Professor Anderson provides practical lessons for every martial artist to really understand Musashi’s teachings.

“In truth, this isn’t one book, it’s really two. One book extracts lessons from Musashi for a modern world. The other is showing a path for you to do what Musashi did with his book, find your own voice to a deeper understanding of your art and how to pass that on to your students in a way that ignites a passion in them for the arts. “

AMERICAN FREESTYLE KARATE – A GUIDE TO SPARRING
Sparring is an art. If I had this book when I was learning it would have saved me years of sparring. The techniques need to be practiced but this book gives instruction on what usually isn’t taught but learned from experience. Invaluable. C. Lewton

Purchased 30 some years ago and found it to be one of the best books I ever purchased on KARATE at that time, and still feel it is one of the best publications to this day.  Robert W. Hepp

As a collector of over 300 books on the martial arts, Anderson’s book is the best I have seen on sparring. A top tournament competitor in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, Anderson has crammed his book with tons of information gathered from his vast experience sparring countless fighters nationally and internationally. American Freestyle is an encyclopedia of techniques and concepts proven in the ring over many years of tough, competitive experience. I highly recommend this book. Loren W. Christensen

THE DAN ANDERSON ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MODERN ARNIS
“It is with great pleasure that I recommend Guro/Sensei Dan Anderson’s exhaustive treatise The Dan Anderson Encyclopedia Of Modern Arnis. What an amazing job he did. So thorough. These volumes are actually for all FMA practitioners. There is so much information, history, and technique along with terminology. Mr. Anderson’s background as a karate champion is clear as the technique sequences exude a sense of realism that only comes from a fighter’s perspective.

“Thank you Guro/Sensei Dan Anderson for being so meticulous in creating superb texts. A massive project beautifully executed. Great job Guro Anderson! Highly recommended!”

SHINTAI KYOUSEI JUTSU
I thought that Professor Anderson laid out one of the most thoroughly thought out interdisciplinary martial arts books I have ever read. I wish I had known these concepts back when I started to study in the 60’s. It would have made things so much easier to understand. I found that my last two years of study follows most of what this book contains, but wished I hadn’t needed to wait until my 60’s to integrate my background in Kenpo, at is, kali, Silat , Tae kwon do and Kuk Sool . It is a must read in my opinion for any martial artist. It will save you time, money and frustration by thoroughly reading and practicing the material presented.  Respectfully, Dr. Herb Shriver.

Shintai Kyousei Jutsu SKJ by Prof Dan Anderson is a must-have book that belongs in the reading rack and on the dojo desk (not just in the bookcase) of every martial artist, regardless of system or style. It lays out in plain language the art of effortless (less effort) opponent body control, the aim of every artist. The concepts and principles are demonstrated in photos, making the methods easy to understand.

Anderson knows what he is writing about. He was a national and international tournament champion in the 1970s, has written 20 books on karate and Filipino martial arts, and has produced 25 DVDs. He is a professional martial artist, instructing full-time in his school and in seminars for many years. Steven Condry

MODERN ARNIS – THE MARTIAL ART OF REMY PRESAS
This book finally brings together a significant amount of detail from the life and art of Remy A. Presas, that many Modern Arnis practitioners, like myself, have wanted to know and understand for years. I received the book on Friday afternoon and had finished it by Sunday evening! I don’t ever remember reading a book as enthralling as this book was for me. Dan went to great detail in organizing the material for this book and it definitely exemplifies his efforts. If you are a practitioner of Modern Arnis, I believe you will greatly enjoy reading this work. I can’t recommend it high enough. I would also like to recommend Dan’s other books on the art of Modern Arnis. Dan is the most prolific author on Modern Arnis. I have several of his books and have used them as reference guides to assist me in learning and teaching various aspect of Modern Arnis in my growth and martial instruction.
